I've been meaning to write to you both much
sooner than this to thank you, thank you, thank you for
the wonderful therapeutic clothing you make and sell.
The Cool Chemo pant and top were simply the most
valuable tool I had for helping my mom (68 years young,
natch!) last December following her mastectomy.
Shortly after Mom was diagnosed with an infiltrating
duct carcinoma in her right breast, the San Jose Mercury
News ran an article about Confident Clothing Company. I
knew right away that your clothing was something quite
special that my Mom might not be able to find back home
in Wisconsin. I ordered the Cool Chemo pant and top with
just eight days to go before my flight from SFO to
Milwaukee and just ten days before Mom's surgery. (A
second thanks for getting the pant and top shipped to me
so quickly; I packed them in my suitcase with my winter
coat, scarf, hat, gloves and boots.) Once I was in WI, I
wrapped them up in a festive gift box which was waiting
on my Mom's bed for her when she got home from the
hospital.
Mom's surgery went, thankfully, medically textbook
perfect, and she was sent home the next day with two
post-operative drains. I have no idea how she would have
managed to sleep, move around and bathe with the
safety-pinned-and-surgical-taped jury rigging she came
home with. She was fussing about it even before she left
the hospital! How happily smug I felt knowing a better
solution was at hand. Mom was so very pleased when she
opened her "Christmas present" (I included the Merc
News' story, too). I disassembled the hospital's
1950's-era solution and put her into your top right
away. It was obviously so much easier for her to move
and do small, independent things for herself because now
the drains and tubes felt secured and stayed in place
close to her body.
(I want to describe how my Mom used her Cool Chemo top
to take a shower: She would leave the drains in their
pouches. I would unsnap the tubes from their cloth
sleeves, hang the top on a clothes hanger and stand
outside the shower curtain holding the hanger with the
top while Mom would stand in the tub behind the shower
curtain washing up. She remained tethered to the top the
entire time!)
Mom wore the Cool Chemo top for more than two weeks
straight after her mastectomy--which included going to
her post-surgery medical appointments and driving me to
the airport during a snow storm for my flight back to
CA. (And if anyone else outside of CA wants to know,
yes, winter-weight "long johns" will work underneath
your clothing.) She put her top and pants away for the
remainder of the WI winter, but is now wearing them
again (sans drain pouches) every Monday, Wednesday and
Friday morning during her exercise class at the Senior
Center near her home. She had a six-months' C.T. scan in
June which was clean and has to take, currently, just a
single preventative cancer medication.
For a third time, Kathy and Susan, thank you for making
a scary and difficult situation that much easier to
manage. I'm very grateful to you both and for your
