Kathy's Inspirational Story
Confident Clothing Company™ was founded by fitness
trainer Kathy Adams.
For her 50th birthday she was given the startling
diagnosis of Stage III, Grade 3 Invasive Ductal
Carcinoma which had metastasized to her lymph nodes.
Kathy followed the prescribed treatment and also
incorporated exercise, which she knew would increase her
chances of beating cancer and dealing with the effects
of radiation and chemotherapy. She fought the cancer and
won, but on her journey she discovered there was a lack
of comfortable active wear for women undergoing
treatment and recovery. Kathy decided to design a cap
and clothing that would fit her new body in comfort
without sacrificing style. After many months of
research, Confident Clothing Company was formed to help
women facing the same challenges that Kathy faced.
All women that have a mastectomy and many that have
radical lumpectomies have to leave the hospital with
tubing and drains embedded near the surgery site.
These drains are necessary to collect the lymphatic
fluid which accumulates because of the removal of lymph
nodes.
The drains need to be emptied and measured a minimum of
twice a day and for many women, especially in the first
one or two weeks, the drains are emptied several times
in a twenty-four hour period.
The drains stay in for three to four weeks on average.
The standard procedure has been to pin the drains to a
person’s clothing. This is not only cumbersome, it can
ruin clothing and it can be unsightly. Because the
drains are “just hanging” from your clothing you run the
risk of the drain opening accidentally and the lymph
fluid getting on your clothing.
Until now there has not been a solution as to how a
woman can go out in public and carry on normal
activities whiling the tubing and drains are in place.
By having built-in adjustable and removable pockets for
the drains and channels to run the tubing through, the
Cool Chemo Top solves this dilemma.
The CCT buttons in front so that you don’t have to lift
your arms over your head to dress. The peplum waist
hides the drains and the draping of the CCT is
flattering and comfortable. |
